The "Everyday Prophets" are enthusiastic, entertaining, and memorable. Off of their, "Singles From the Future," the hit is definitely "Flinch". This first single on the album has a seldom heard combination of reggae, rock, and electronic texture. The raw guitar solos create the rock feel, while the vocals and rhythm sections maintain that traditional reggae "feel-good" groove. The intro to the single "Flinch," is great at drawing in a listening ear and creating curiosity for what may come next. The use of electronics is very tastefully done. Sometimes electronics can sound over used or cheesy, but in the case of "Flinch," everything flows and feels like it comes in and out at the right moments. The chorus has a captivating hook for this single, and it is hard to resist singing along. The lyrics are interesting and have depth. The musical structure of "Flinch," is simple to follow, but does not lead to the point of predictability. The entire song maintains that lade back feel that instantly makes you want to chill and dance simultaneously.
The second single on the album was "Laserbeam." Once again the intro was interesting and unexpected, and the rock/reggae/electronic feel made an impression. This song is more up-tempo than "Flinch," and still gets you wanting to move your feet and bob your head. The lyrics are especially impacting on this single. They are very original and memorable. There are some outstanding guitar moments in this single, and the vocals are excellent all the way around. The ending of "Laserbeam," did feel a bit weak. It did not seem to end with the same flow that encompassed the rest of both singles.
The "Everyday Prophets," are certainly not a waste of time! They were interesting, consistent, and talented. They lade down a groove that anyone would enjoy. It was a pleasure to listen to their creations. They come highly recommended if you are craving that reggae feel!
