Brenda Xu's album presents us with her haunting and unique voice. She has a sound that is easily remembered and interesting. Though I love listening to her sing, I felt that the album had several distinct shortcomings. Brenda uses a rhythmic pattern that is identical in each of the following songs: "Count to Ten," "She Knows," "What I've Got Inside," and "It's True." I would love to hear her try some new patterns rhythmically and lyrically in her songs. Her sound has so much potential, and I feel that these changes would only enhance her style. My favorite song was "Copy It". The flowing feeling throughout the song drew me in, however, I felt somewhat cheated by the abrupt ending of the song. I felt that the song called for a more lingering sense of closure. The only other suggestion I have would be to have Brenda place a copy of her lyrics in her CD. The lyrics were interesting, but at times hard to follow. Perhaps a typed sleeve of her lyrics would allow the listener to become more a part of her songs. I am very anxious to hear her next album and see what changes and growth she has made! Need a drummer??
