The Big Dirty throws down on their album, "Move!" Every song is a whirlwind of funk, soul, blues, psychedelic, and jazz. These tracks have a catchy groove, and give the feeling of a live jam. The instrumentation on the album is guitar, bass, drums/percussion, and sax. All the textures are blended to perfection, and the flow of the entire album made sense. There is not a moment of dislike when listening to "Move!" The other great thing about this album is the fact that every musician had the chance to show off his ability, and every musician is obviously fluent in the language of music. The sax is one of the greatest additions to their music. You don't hear enough sax now-a-days, and you can NEVER hear enough sax!
The album is primarily instrumental, but did have some minimal vocals. Many of the songs started with one particular instrument starting off, and then the other instruments gradually entered to add intensity. This technique adds great dynamics to a song, and The Big Dirty applied the technique flawlessly.
If a list of words were used to describe The Big Dirty album,"Move!", some of them would be: raw, energetic, natural, playful, chillin', enjoyable, and groovin'. These guys started the album strong, and ended it with just as much enthusiasm. It was truly a privilege to listen to this album.
