VERNON (by timstaump)

"The Eyes of Love," performed by Vernon, introduces us to a distinct new way to listen to classical, and classic songs. Vernon's sound may not be for everyone, but there is no denying that he has experience and creativity. The entire album gives a classic romantic feel, but with a more modern twist. The instrumentation throughout the album is very clean, and the arrangements of every song were at times unexpected and entirely unique.

On track number five," Peace in the World," the electric guitar seemed very out of place, and distracted the listener from the mood of the song and its message. Track six, "Hurt," included a techno beat that gave the listener some interesting textures to sort through. On track sixteen, "Without You," Vernon had a well done performance. This song is not easy to sing and it showed off his vocal range and ability. The best song on the album was definitely, "Mambo." With the most energetic feel, this song went best with Vernon's vocal style. He seemed to produce more enthusiasm and character throughout this song.

This particular song also included two bonus tracks of "Mambo" done in different feels; salsa Latina and reggaeton. It was fun to hear several different feels of the same song. Each version was strong and energetic.

"The Eyes of Love," was not your typical mainstream music, but should be appreciated for the talent and originality put forth, both through the arrangements and the vocals styles. If you are interested in a cultural, classical experience I would recommend Vernon.
