The Musical Fuel of Staump.com

posted: Tue. Oct 31st, 2006 @ 11:20 PM

Greetings, from your Staump.com code jockey.

I figured I'd let the community in on the music that fueled the development of this site. My musical taste is very eclectic, drawing from a wide variety of sources, from Sinatra, to Soilwork, but when I'm programming, I like a very specific mood.

Often times I'll queue up the entirety of Akira Yamaoka's collected Silent Hill sound tracks for the atmosphere alone, very dark, gritty and scarily ambient, but I also love his rock style compositions, featuring Mary Elizabeth McGlynn on vocals.

If I'm in a more heated coding frenzy, I'll throw on some Al DiMeola, Peter White, Brian Bromberg, or just about anything with Dennis Chambers on drums, for that smooth instrumental jazz-rock fusion.

There's also good old classical to be found while I'm hacking away into the night. My favorites are Beethoven and Vivaldi.

I generally prefer instrumental works while programming, but at times I'll queue up something I know I can get lost in while working. This is most especially true with The Postman Syndrome/Day Without Dawn. Their unique blend (which I've heard best described as "emo-core") never fails to enthrall me.

You also shouldn't be surprised to find me blasting Rhapsody/Luca Turilli, In Flames, The Haunted, DragonForce, or any number of other melodic metal type bands if I'm in a good mood and making serious progress.

Finally, since they deserve their own category altogether, I listen to a serious amount of Pink Floyd while working.

I hope everyone enjoys the fruits of my labor, and maybe draws a little insight into what made it all possible based on my listening during the process.

See you all around on Staump.com!

So the upcoming revision of Staump.com is nearly upon us all, and that means I've been sitting at my computer again for the past two months coding, and listening to music. Hey, it's what I do!

I picked up the Garbage "Best Of" album, and I've been listening to that a good deal. I also got the new Ephel Duath album, and I have to say it's an extremely strange listen, but rather rewarding. It has a very "Silent Hill" meets Nine Inch Nails feel. Best of all though, the new Arch Enemy album, "Rise of the Tyrant" is a serious kick in the ass. I like the raw vocals method Gossow utilized on this album better than the vocal doubling of Doomsday Machine. Although the new album is still no Black Earth or Stigmata, it's worth the listen.
