User Icons/Avatars

posted: Sun. Jun 22nd, 2008 @ 04:05 AM

First thing's first: members are now able to set a picture to represent themself! (See my pic with this post) You can add your avatar by going to the "My Profile" link you'll see when you're logged in to the site, and going to the options tab. Anything over 64x64 pixels will get cropped and converted to jpg. Sorry, no animated gifs.

One of the single biggest new features of the site is undoubtedly "the lifestream." Every artist and band has their own lifestream available on their info page. As well, everyone contributes to "the sitestream" which you can find by going to the "Music" section and clicking the siteastream tab. This stream gives you a list of everything that's going on with Staump.com as well as the activities of Staump.com member bands and artists around the internet (once the import features have been brought online, stay tuned!)

But it gets even better! Want to keep tabs on your favorites without having to wade through the entire sitestream or going to individual info pages? Well, simply set up your favorite bands, the go the the "Favorites" link at the top of the page and you'll get a stream that consists entirely of the artists and bands you like. It's that simple, it's that fun.

But all that isn't even the best part! The stream allows you to comment on ANYTHING that anyone does. Say you'll be at a show, say how much you like someone's photo, respond to a blog post. You can do it all and more in the lifestream. Any comments you make on songs, shows, blog posts and photos will show up on the page dedicated to that particular item as well.

You can post messages directly to the lifestream if you have permissions for that particular band. Give your fans a "what's up?", remind people about a show, or whatever else you'd like to say to everyone. You can also make your post into a link by providing an optional url for it to point to. You can do all this from the band's lifestream page, as long as you have permissions to add items to the lifestream.

Band Members and Granular Profile Permissions

With Staump.com's dedication to making powerful and accessible press-kit style profiles easy and fun to use, we're proud to announce a new permissions system for profiles!

If you have created a band or artist profile, you'll notice and "Option" tab on the profile page. On this page you'll be able to add members to the profile. You can add members who don't have Staump.com accounts by entering their name and instrument and leaving the username field blank. Or even better, members that DO have Staump.com accounts you can also enter their Staump.com username and open up the ability to let them manage portions of the profile!

The permissions editor may look a little dense, but that's because there's a lot of power packed into that little page!

In the permissions editor you can change a member's name and instrument (press enter when you've typed it in, the row will flash yellow letting you know it has been updated). You can also give a member who has a Staump.com login individual permissions to edit the profile, but only if you want to! You can give someone permissions to delete (the x column), add (the + column) and edit (the page column) items on any of these pages: the lifestream, info page, releases, shows, gallery and blog.

Next you'll find a check box whether or not to show this person in the info page. Want to let your manager update the blog or post photos? Simply add them (supplying their Staump.com user name) and uncheck the visibility.

To the far right you'll find the remove button (-). The only member you can't remove is the person who created the band.

Finally on the far left you'll find an icon that lets you re-arrange the order of the band members to change how they show up on the info page.

So go ahead, get all your band members to sign up with Staump.com and get them to participate in adding things to your band profile!
